Dr. Tenicia has more than 20 years of experience in both general practice and hospital settings in the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka and Australia. Skin cancer care, including skin checks and procedures, has been one of her main interests along with Women’s Health, preventative health and chronic medical conditions.

Having worked in a busy rural setting she is equipped with the skills to be a well-rounded General Practitioner. In addition to Fellowship with RACGP she has completed qualifications in internal medicine, skin cancer medicine and surgery and women’s health.

When not working she loves spending time with her family, gardening, baking and travelling.

Dr Marcus Sim

FRACGP, MBBS, BBiomedSci, BSci (Hons), DCH

Dr Marcus Sim graduated from the University of Sydney (School of Medicine) in 2012. He has worked in various hospitals in NSW, however returned his hometown of Melbourne where he completed my Fellowship Training in Specialist General Practice in 2018 along with a Diploma in Child Health (University of Sydney). Prior to this Marcus was working as a scientist at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute based at the Royal Children’s Hospital (Melbourne). Marcus enjoys building a strong doctor-patient relationship through mutual respect and shared decision making. He has an interest in Men’s Health, Adolescent Health and Mental Health. Marcus has been trained in minor skin procedures and Implanon insertion/removal.

In Marcus’ spare time he enjoys chasing after his 2 sons, watching Liverpool FC and sharing his love of board games.

Dr Pamela Wu

FRACGP, MBBS, BMedSc, DCH

Dr Pamela Wu has an interest in Child, Adolescent and Women’s Health with a focus on Preventative Medicine via regular health checks and working with her patients to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Pamela graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2008, training in Bendigo, the Austin and Northern Hospitals before completing her Fellowship in Specialist General Practice and a Diploma in Child Health (University of Sydney). Pamela have substantial experience in minor skin procedures, skin checks and Implanon insertion/removal. To unwind, Pamela loves taking walks with her dog, improving her cooking skills and discovering new destinations.

Dr Jessica Dhir

FRACGP, MD (OB/GYN), MBBS

Dr Jessica Dhir has been providing specialist General Practice Care in Aspendale Gardens since 2012. She attained her Fellowship in Specialist General Practice in 2010. Originally Jessica trained as an Obstetrician/Gynaecologist, completing her training in 1998. However, during her time in Australia, she grew to love caring for families and pursued General Practice, gaining experience working all over Victoria before gaining the Fellowship in Specialist General Practice. Jessica is specialized in all aspects of General Practice, with an interest in Women’s and Children’s Health with a focus on Weight Loss Medicine. Jessica is skilled in minor skin procedure and Implanon insertion/removal. Jessica is fluent in Hindi and Punjabi.

Jessica loves cooking and singing, as well as spending time chasing around her three almost adult children and the cutest dog in the world, Romeo.

Dr Rodney Poon

FRACGP, MBBS

Dr Rodney Poon has over 35 years experience as a General Practitioner. Dr Poon was the practice owner of Long Beach Medical in Chelsea Heights and joined the team at Medical for Everybody in late 2021. Dr Poon brings with himself a vast knowledge of medicine and thoroughly enjoys guiding his patients to better health.

Outside of general practice Rodney enjoys all things to do with the arts and derives particular enjoyment from listening to the Rolling Stones.

Andrew White (Podiatrist)

BPod SMA MBA

Andrew has been working in private practice for over 12 years with most of his time spent in sports medicine clinics. He has worked closely with sports medicine professionals to help keep and maintain his patients active and healthy. He is experienced in all facets of podiatry and has a particular interest in resolving chronic heel pain. Andrew has additional qualifications in dry needling and acupuncture and uses them widely to help treat soft tissue injuries. He also treats many ingrown toenails – performing nail wedge resections regularly, looks after feet affected by diabetes, and treats all other nail and skin concerns.

Steffie Lau (Dietitan)

APD

Steffie Lau is an accredited practising dietitian with over 10 years experience working with adults and children, successfully helping them in achieving their health goals. She graduated with a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics at Deakin University in Melbourne and completed further training in paediatric nutrition with a Certificate in Paediatric Nutrition and Dietetics from the Royal Children’s Hospital. Her area of speciality includes weight loss, emotional eating support, gut health, diabetes, heart disease, underweight, vegetarianism, veganism and fussy eating.

Steffie believes in a client centred approach and knows the importance of setting individual health goals. She regards herself as a highly motivated person who is resourceful and dedicated in helping of children, young people and adults to understand, manage and assimilate a therapeutic diet into their lifestyles. She is enthusiastic about supporting clients on their health journeys and encouraging attainable lifestyle changes with significant proven results.

Consultation is by appointment only and can be made by calling 9590 9955, through our website med4everybody.com.au and via email: receptionag@med4everybody.com.au, or through HotDoc.

Urgent medical problems will be dealt with promptly. “Walk-ins” will be offered the next available appointment. Appointments are made at 15-minute intervals.

If you have a complex medical problem or require a procedure, please advise our reception and we will book a longer appointment.

Home visits are available in certain circumstances & only in limited areas.

Reminder System

This practice has a reminder system and has a policy of sending letters for preventative health measures. Please let the doctor or receptionist know if you do not wish to have this system in place for you.

Telephone Access

Doctors may be contacted by phone during surgery hours. A message will be taken by reception and will be left for the doctor. The doctor will generally return your call when available. In a genuine emergency, the receptionist will inform the doctor directly.

Fees and Billing

We are a mixed billing clinic, and bulk bill patients under 16 years of age, and patient over 65 years of age with an appropriate concession card.

Test Results

Correspondence related to the patient are treated confidentially, patients are advised to come and discuss their results with their Doctor. Results needing urgent appointments are given by the doctor. You will need an appointment for all results.

Repeat Prescription and Referrals

A repeat prescription and/or referral requires the doctor to monitor your health, assess your condition and make a medical decision. To fulfil our professional and ethical responsibilities, we request that patients consult with the doctor for this.

Emailing Correspondence

Under the Privacy Act and the Accreditation Standards, we are not legally allowed to send medical records, results, referrals, etc via email as emails are not encrypted and therefore not guaranteed to keep your personal and medical information safe and confidential. Email servers are usually located outside of Australia and we are not legally allowed to send medical information off-shore. In a truly urgent or emergency situation only, please contact the clinic and our receptionists will try to assist you. Correspondence will continue to be posted, faxed or collected from reception as per your request.

Change of Details

If your contact details have recently changed or you have received a new Medicare Card, please inform our receptionist on your arrival so we can update your details in our system.

Medical for Everybody Chirnside Park is a Mixed Billing Clinic

Bulk billing for under 16 and pension card holders (Mon-Fri only)

We charge a no show and late cancellation fee. If there is a need to cancel or move your appointment, please contact the clinic prior to 24hrs of your appointment. This is important as your appointment may be able to be given to someone else in need. We charge a $50 no-show and late cancellation fee.

We are a mixed billing clinic, with a gap depending on the length of consult.
However, we do bulk-bill (no gap) children under 16 years old and patients with a valid Pensioner Concession Card.

Dr Piyumi Balasooriya Lekamlage

MBBS, SCHP, FRACGP

Dr Piyumi completed her degree in 2016. She commenced her training in Queensland and then moving to Melbourne to complete 2 years of residency and a year as a surgical registrar. She has also worked in rural Australia, including Darwin before moving into General Practice which she loves.

Dr Piyumi’s areas of interest are: Preventative Medicine, Children’s health, Women’s health, Skin Cancer Medicine and procedures such as skin excisions and implanon insertions/removals.

Outside of medicine, she loves to spend time with her two dogs. She is passionate about healthy living and enjoys going to the gym, hiking, dancing and scuba diving.

Dr Sophie Sadr

Dr Sophie Sadr received her Medical Doctorate in Iran in 2009 and received her fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2018. She enjoys all aspects of general practice, although has a special interest in chronic conditions, mental health and counselling, women’s health, paediatrics, skin checks and acute injuries. In more recent years, Sophie has discovered a passion for cosmetic medicine which has led to further training in Aesthetic medicine. She has a keen aesthetic eye and believes strongly in achieving natural looking results.

Sophie is also a Registered Medical Acupuncturist. This has resulted in further options of management for her patients. Medicare rebate is available for acupuncture sessions due to additional training Dr Sophie completed through the Australian Medical Acupuncture College (AMAC). Sophie uses acupuncture for conditions, such as: musculoskeletal pain, headaches, migraines, women’s health pain, allergies, anxiety, sleeping problems, smoking cessation, as well as others.

Sophie is fluent in English and Farsi.

Jennie is a very versatile dietitian who specialises in areas of paediatrics, FODMAPs, and elimination diet.

Jennie has been a dietitian for over 17 years, she has worked in a variety of settings in metropolitan and rural Melbourne, including community health, community rehabilitation (cardiac, pulmonary, and general rehabilitation) and hospitals. Jennie has also worked in private practice for over 10 years specialising in weight concerns, diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, paediatric and sports nutrition.

Jennie is part of discover health and is based at the Chirnside Park location and is available for telehealth appointments from all other locations.

Dr James Mok

Dr James Mok has worked in the Shire of the Yarra Ranges for more than 18 years and has just joined the practice of Medical for Everybody.

Dr Mok acquired his Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Melbourne.

James holds a fellowship of The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP). Additionally, he obtained three certificates which include a Certificate of Skin Cancer Medicine (CSCM), a Certificate of Dermoscopy (CD) and a Certificate of Women’s Health.

Dr Mok is a proficient doctor who believes listening to his patients and motivating them to improve their health is at the heart of how he practices medicine. He specialises in all aspects of family medicine and is particularly interested in Skin Cancer Diagnosis, Diabetes Management and Men’s Health.

James is multilingual and fluent in English as well as Cantonese.

Dr Ming Chow - Paediatritian

Ming is a consultant paediatrician who has worked for a number of years in private paediatric practice, seeing children and teenagers with neurodevelopmental and behavioural disorders. He has been working with children and adolescents who have had difficulties with their attention, learning, early development, behaviour, socialisation and mood, helping with the diagnosis and management of their difficulties.

Ming trained as a general paediatrician and has an extensive experience, working in a variety of settings including Metropolitan, Rural and Regional centres, in both hospital and practice practice settings. Ming connects well with children and parents. He believes in a holistic approach to management, working collaboratively with parents, teachers, therapists, psychologists and other specialists to help identify and address the varied needs of the patient.

Ming will work with families, to help them understand the needs and issues their children may be experiencing, and provide them guidance of how they could best help their children. He believes in advocating for services and educational provisions which would help support the child as well as their families. He is passionate about seeing children and adolescents thrive in their personal, social and academic lives, in trying to help them meet their potential.

Dr Clement Chan

Clement is an enthusiastic clinician and focuses on continuously improving his skills so that he can provide his patients with the best care. He has recently moved back to Melbourne after working in Tamworth.

His interests are in general restorative care and endodontics (root canal treatment). He enjoys getting to know his patients and understanding their expectations so that the best treatment plan can be tailored to their needs and budget.

Away from work, Clement enjoys spending time with his family and friends, reading, and following sports. He looks forward to meeting you soon and helping with your dental health needs!

Tom Kerlin

Tom has 3 years in private practice Physiotherapy and previous experience in gym settings. He graduated from Physiotherapy at Charles Sturt University in 2018 and also comes to the practice with a background in Exercise and Sport Science. He has also developed an interest in how strength and conditioning and clinical exercise can play a role in lifelong health and rehabilitation.

James Taylor

Since graduating from La Trobe University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Health Sciences and a Masters in Physiotherapy, James has worked in private practice settings. He has worked with community-level sporting clubs, predominantly in the VAFA as well as in the VFL. This has fostered James’ passion for helping athletes of any level return from injury to the sport they love.

James has experience in treating various musculoskeletal injuries including lower limb injuries (hip/knee/ankle), neck and lower back pain, and sports related injuries. He can also treat TMJ (jaw pain) and vertigo.

After a paediatric rotation during university, James discovered an interest in helping children from as young as infants to adolescence to improve their quality of life. James has experience with a wide range of conditions in paediatrics. He can treat torticollis, plagiocephaly, gross developmental delays and growth-related conditions (Osgood Schlatter’s and Sever’s disease).

Dr Sanil Nair

Dr Sanil Nair completed his General practice training in South Australia and Victoria

He enjoys all facets of general practice including sexual health, family planning, Chronic disease management, Aboriginal and Indigenous health, and lifestyle medicine. Prior to this he has worked in various Intensive care departments across Melbourne.

He completed his medical training in India and trained in Anaesthetics in the U.K

He enjoys running and is an active participant of the weekly local park runs..

Dr Josh Soh

Dr Joshua Soh was born and raised locally in Melbourne. He completed his dental degree at The University of Adelaide.

Dr Josh strives to make patients feel comfortable while delivering the highest level of dental care. He understands that every patient has different goals and tailors their treatment plans accordingly.

Dr Josh has a strong focus in preventative dental and is thus committed to educating patients and identifying small problems early to help avoid complex dental problems in the future. He also enjoys children’s dentistry and tooth-saving root canal treatments.

Outside of work Dr Josh spends time with his big family (he’s the youngest of six kids) and also keeps active by playing badminton and tennis.

Lis Coffey

As a physiotherapist, Lis is passionate about treating a person holistically and not simply their physical presentation. She aims to work with clients to achieve their goals, collaborating with them long term towards their lifelong health.

Since graduating from Latrobe University in 2004, Lis gained experience in almost all areas of physiotherapy, including Community Health, Grade 2 Physiotherapist in Rehabilitation, Transition Care, Acute Wards, Women’s Health, ED weekend cover and Outpatients.

However, since 2016 she has worked as a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist within Private Practices.

She has a strong emphasis on strength and conditioning alongside Clinical Pilates. She is trained as a GLA:D Physiotherapist and helped launch this OA program at the private practice clinic back in 2017, which continues to thrive.

Lis has a background in track and field athletics and distance running and enjoys competing and training with the Yarra Ranges team each week.

She also has four children under the age of 10 which keep her very busy.

Andrew White

Andrew White started at Medical for Everybody when the practice first opened as a purely after hours clinic in 2015. He has been working in private practice for over 12 years with all of his time spent in sports medicine clinics. He is experienced in all facets of podiatry and has a particular interest in resolving chronic heel pain.

Of note, he has been using extra corporeal shockwave therapy for 7 years with great effect in resolving plantar fasciitis and achilles tendonitis. This treatment is highly effective, doesn’t require injections and is performed onsite. Andrew has additional qualifications in dry needling and uses it widely to help treat soft tissue injuries.

Andrew also treats all patients with diabetes, problematic nails, and general foot concerns.

Rachel Lohman

Rachel is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Sports Dietitian graduating from Deakin University with a Bachelor of Food and Nutrition Sciences (Honours) and Master of Dietetics.

Rachel has a special interest in sports nutrition and is currently the sports Dietitian for the Geelong Cats AFLW. She enjoys assisting junior, adolescent and adult athletes to help them lay down basic nutritional practices, boost performance, assist recovery as well as meeting body composition goals to reach optimal performance and their training/competition goals.

Rachel has a passion for helping people of all ages to achieve their nutritional goals, maintaining a balanced lifestyle and optimise health via individualised, realistic and practical nutritional advice. Areas of practice include healthy eating, sorting out fact from fiction, weight management, gastrointestinal disturbances, food intolerances and allergies, malnutrition and diabetes.

Outside of the clinic, Rachel enjoys playing sport; football and water-skiing, camping and travelling.

Dr Slavko Tokanovic

Dr Slavko Tokanovic studied at the University of Notre Dame (Sydney/Melbourne) and has worked at Alfred, Monash and Eastern Health. He travelled Australia and worked with the ADF as a medical officer for over 10 years whilst completing his training through RACGP. Dr Slavko holds a Masters of Traumatology and has developed interests in musculoskeletal medicine, veterans health, rural and travel medicine. Dr Slavko works part time at the practice and also speaks Serbian.

Dr Joel Ang GP

Joel is a dedicated GP with wide experience in medicine and surgery. He currently serves as a reservist medical officer with the Royal Australian Navy. Joel has worked as a lecturer and researcher in the Department of General Practice, The University of Melbourne. He was awarded the prestigious National Medicine Scholarship, from The University of Melbourne, over the 6 years of his combined medical and research degrees. As a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Joel is committed to providing optimal patient care.

Dr Rodney Poon

Outside of general practice Rodney enjoys all things to do with the arts and derives particular enjoyment from listening to the Rolling Stones.

The Australian Privacy Act incorporates thirteen Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) that set out rules for the handling of personal information in the private sector. General practice is subject to stringent privacy obligations by virtue of handling health information.

Collection of Information:
It is necessary for us to collect and hold personal health information about you so that we may properly assess, diagnose, treat and be proactive in your health care needs.

Use and Disclosure of Information:
A patient’s’ personal health information is used or disclosed for purposes directly related to their health care and in ways that are consistent with a patient’s expectations. In the interests of the highest quality and continuity of health care this may include:
Sharing information with other health care providers from time to time – including treating doctors, pathology services, radiology services and other specialists outside this medical practice. This may occur through referrals to other doctors, or for medical tests and in the reports or results returned to us following the referrals.
Disclosure for medical register recording (e.g. pap smear or diabetes register).

In addition, there are circumstances when information must be disclosed without patient consent, such as –

Renee Wilson

Renee has developed extensive experience during her time at The Victorian Rehabilitation Centre, one of Australia’s largest private rehabilitation facilities. Cameron Brown

Cameron Brown has extensive knowledge and experience as a Physiotherapist after working in private practice for nearly 10 years. Cameron graduated from the University of Melbourne with an Honours degree in 2009 and as a local to the outer eastern suburbs, Cameron has a strong understanding of the local clientele and their needs. In Cameron’s time volunteering for the Richmond AFL Football Club, and providing professional services to various local sporting clubs, Cameron has built a strong knowledge and understanding of what it takes to prepare for both a casual and elite level of sports participation. As a former Baseball player and with a good knowledge of throwing technique, Cameron has established good skills in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of shoulder injury.

Dr Eric Liew

Dr Eric Liew graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2007, and has practised in both rural and metropolitan Victoria. He was also a demonstrator for dental students undergoing their training in university. Dr Eric believes prevention is better than cure and thus is committed to educating and helping patients achieve optimal dental care. With years of experience in dentistry, Dr Eric is experienced across multiple facets of dentistry whether it is working together with the patient towards a long term plan or whether it is to help patients with immediate dental concerns.

Outside of dentistry, Dr Eric enjoys jazz music, watching soccer and a good TV series to binge on.

Dr Joseph Huang

Dr Joseph Huang completed his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Dental Surgery both at the University of Melbourne. He has lived in Tasmania, Morwell and Melbourne. Upon graduating, he returned to Tasmania and worked in a small country town north of Hobart in private practice.

Dr Joseph is committed to working together with his patients to create a comfortable environment, so that he may provide ideal treatment outcomes in an ethical and honest manner. His areas of interest include extractions, fixed prosthodontics (crowns) and working with children.

When Joseph isn’t at work, he enjoys playing and watching basketball, travelling and listening to music. Joseph is conversational in Cantonese.

Dr Joel Ang - Dentist

Dr Joel Ang is a dual qualified medical doctor and dentist from the University of Melbourne. As a health professional practising both professions, he understands the importance of dental care and how it impacts one’s overall health. As such, he founded Dental For Everybody Chirnside Park, as a sister clinic to Medical for Everybody Chirnside Park and has assembled a team of dental practitioners to realise his vision in providing comprehensive dental care to the community. Joel also currently serves as a reservist medical officer with the Royal Australian Navy.

Dr Akram Abdullahi

Dr Akram grew up in Melbourne and completed both his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees at the University of Melbourne. Akram has enjoyed working in rural and urban Victoria before joining the team at Dental For Everybody.

Dr Akram’s passion for health science and eye for creativity made dentistry the perfect profession for him. He is well known for his gentle chairside manner and fostering a relaxing environment (which works wonders for the anxious patients!). Being a former volunteer leader of Teddy Bear Hospital, Dr Akram has no troubles treating the younger population.

Dr Akram enjoys all facets of dentistry but takes particular interest in aesthetic dentistry .He is a member of the Australian Dental Association and regularly attends professional courses to ensure he delivers the most up to date treatments.

Outside of work, Akram loves spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoys watching his beloved Essendon Bombers win premiership flags and going to the cinemas!

Dr Cheer Ring Ang

Dr Cheer Ring Ang graduated from the prestigious National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1977. She started a solo dental practice in Lilydale in 1984 and has since provided professional dental services to over 13,000 patients – many of whom are still being cared for, over 30 years later. She moved her practice to co-locate with Medical for Everybody Chirnside Park, founded by her son, Dr Joel Ang, who is both a medical doctor and dentist, in July 2018 in order to provide a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to health care delivery to the community.

She is passionately looking forward to continue to provide comprehensive gentle dental services in: general dentistry, emergency dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, preventative dentistry, restorative dentistry, scale and clean, fillings, root canal treatment, crown & bridge, veneers, teeth whitening, dentures, mouthguards and extractions.

She caters to patients who are (i) apprehensive; (ii) fearful of needles.

Outside of dentistry, she plays the piano, spends time with family and enjoys cooking. She is also a dog-lover.

Sean Frost

Sean began working as an enrolled nurse in 2012 and completed his registered nursing at La Trobe University in 2015. After working at the Alfred Hospital and numerous clinics around Melbourne, he joined Medical for Everybody in 2018.

Sean’s skills include childhood/adult vaccinations, ear syringing, suturing, care plans, blood collection, ECG’s, spirometry and wound care. He’s currently studying a postgraduate in diabetes and plans to become an educator once completed.

In his spare time, Sean enjoys spending time with his family and walking the dog along the Yarra River.

Dr Peter Hoffman

Peter studied medicine at The University of Melbourne and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1975. In 1980 he started a general practice in Wantirna South, where he practised family medicine until moving to Brisbane in 1993. He and his wife have since lived in a number of other cities, including 13 years in Adelaide, where Peter last practised medicine. He and his wife have recently returned to Melbourne after a three year stint in Toronto, Canada, where Peter worked in pastoral care with his church. Cycling, as well as being with his family and grand-children are what he enjoys most in his leisure time.

Dr Edward Yee

Dr Edward Yee is a committed GP who completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of surgery in 2004. He has worked in paediatrics, orthopedics, internal medicine, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology departments. Dr Edward also worked in a rural hospital for four years where he was the officer in charge of the influenza ward, the male ward, and the haemodialysis unit. General practice training ensued and he successfully obtained the FRACGP.

Dr Edward Yee has an interest in diabetes, smoking cessation, skin cancer, asthma, COAD and many other aspects of general practice. He also removes and inserts the implanon contraceptive implant.

Fluent in English, Cantonese and Malay.

Dr Diana Yannas

Diana completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in Egypt in 2005.
She worked at Ballarat Base Hospital for 4 years where she worked in various fields of medicine, including 6 months in obstetrics & gynaecology, paediatrics, palliative care, surgery, emergency and ENT. Following this, she entered General Practice training program and worked as a GP in Kyneton, Maryborough and Bacchus Marsh. She then successfully obtained fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

Diana enjoys family medicine and holistic health care; but has a special interest in women’s health, paediatric and adolescent health. She is passionate about preventative health. Diana has 2 beautiful children and outside work she loves spending time with her family and friends and enjoys being involved in her church community.

Diana consults at the clinic Monday to Friday.

Dr Wesley Ang

FRACGP, ACNEM, MBBS

Wes completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 1996, and worked in hospitals Australia-wide gaining experience in emergency medicine, general surgery, general medicine, cardiothoracic surgery, urology, gynaecology, anaesthetics and orthopaedics.

He then spent 2 years in the United Kingdom working in hospitals in the National Health Service, before returning home to complete the Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in 2005.

Recognising current therapies were not producing the best outcomes for all of his patients, Wes completed an Advanced Diploma in Counselling and Family Therapy in 2006 and have since furthered his education in nutritional and environmental medicine (ACNEM), with the aim of providing patients with a complete service and care.

Wes enjoys general practice using a combination of orthodox and complementary treatments

Communication policy

To give each patient the best consultation possible, doctors prefer not to be interrupted by phone calls. Practice staff are happy to take a message, and the doctor will return your call as soon as they are available. In the case of an emergency your call will always be put through to the doctor immediately.

Repeat prescriptions and referrals

An appointment is usually required for repeat prescriptions and referrals, which ensures optimal patient care and satisfies the doctors’ medicolegal obligations.

Email correspondence

Under the Privacy Act and the Accreditation Standards, we are legally not allowed to send medical records, results, referrals, etc via email due to them not being encrypted, as well as the fact that the email servers can be located outside Australia and we are not allowed to send medical information off-shore. PERSONAL INFORMATION, PRIVACY AND YOUR DOCTOR

Aims

This leaflet aims to explain clearly how personal information about you and your health is recorded and managed in this Practice. Your doctors will be happy to discuss this with you.

Your Personal Health Information

Your doctor needs information about your past and present health in order to provide you with high quality care. This Practice will make sure that you are able to discuss your health with your doctor in private.

Information is called “Personal Health Information” if it concerns your health, medical history or past or future medical care and if someone reading it would be able to identify you.

This Practice follows the “code of practice for management for health information in medical practices” developed by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. This means that your personal health information is kept private and secure. The approach used in code is consistent with the provisions of Federal and State Privacy Legislation. The Practice has a written policy on personal health information. This policy is available to all patients for inspection.

Your Medical Records

Your doctor will do his or her best to make sure that your medical records:

Are accurate, comprehensive, well organised and legible
Are up to date o Have enough information to allow another doctor to care for you
Do not contain offensive or irrelevant comments about you
Contain a summary of your care
Can be used to remind you, with your permission, to return for follow up, check-ups and reviews

Your doctor will only collect information that is relevant to your medical care. If you are uncertain as to why particular information is being requested, then ask your doctor.

Providing Your Information to Other Doctors

The doctors in this Practice respect your right to decide how your personal health information is used or disclosed (for example, to other doctors). In all but exceptional circumstances, personal information that identifies you will be sent to other people only with your consent. Gaining your consent is the guiding principle.

It is important that other people involved in your care, such as other doctors, are informed of relevant parts of your medical history so that they can best care for you. After discussing with you, your doctor will write a letter to the other doctor, which will either be posted or given to you to be taken. If you have any concerns about this, discuss it with your doctor.

In most group Practices like ours, it is customary for all doctors in the Practice to have access to all the medical records. If you have any concerns about other doctors at this Practice being able to see your records, discuss your concerns with your doctor.

Providing Your Information to Others

Your doctor will not disclose your personal health information to a third party unless:

You have consented to the disclosure, or
This disclosure is necessary as you are at risk of harm without treatment and you are unable to give consent, for example, if you are unconscious after an accident, or
Your doctor is legally obliged to disclose the information, for example, notification of certain infectious diseases or suspected child abuse or a subpoena or court order, or
The information is necessary to obtain Medicare payments or other health insurance rebates, or
This disclosure is necessary for the doctors in the Practice to carry out a review of their Practice for the purpose of improving the quality of care provided and the activity has been approved under Commonwealth or State Legislation or by a medical college. This provides safeguards to protect the confidentiality of the information provided, or
There is an overriding public interest in the release of the information.

In any of the above cases, only information that is necessary to achieve the objective/s will be provided.

Using Health Information for Quality Improvement and Research

We use patient health information to assist in improving the quality of care we give to our patients by reviewing the treatments used in the Practice.

We may also use the information that does not identify you in research projects to improve health care in the community. You will normally be informed if your information is to be used for this purpose and will have the opportunity to refuse to have your unidentified information used in this way. In some circumstances, where the research serves an important public interest, identifiable medical records can be used for medical research with our consent under guidelines issued by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NH and MRC). This research must be approved by an official ethics committee.

Security of Information in the Practice

We will ensure that any of your personal information that is put on computer will be kept private in the same way as occurs with paper records. This will protect your records from unauthorised access.

Your Access to Your Health Information

You have access to the information contained in your medical record. You may ask your doctor about any aspect of your health care including information in your record. We believe that sharing information is important for good communication between you and your doctor and good health care.

Information in your record can be provided to you by way of an accurate and up to date summary of your care, for instance if you are moving away and are transferring to a new doctor. Do not hesitate to ask your doctor if you want

a summary of your care for any reason. If you request a summary of direct access to your full medical record, your doctor will need to take out any information provided by others on a confidential basis. Your doctor will also need to consider the risk of any physical or mental harm to you and any other person which may result from disclosure of your health information.

Your doctor will be pleased to provide a full explanation of the health summary for the medical record provided. Depending on what is involved, you may be asked to contribute to the cost of providing the information.

Resolving Your Concerns Regarding the Privacy of Your Health Information

If you have any concerns regarding the privacy of your health information or regarding the accuracy of the information held by the Practice, you should discuss these with your doctor. Inaccurate information will be corrected or your concerns noted in the records if it is not possible or desirable to alter the original record.

We provide childhood immunisations as per the Childhood National Immunisation Program. We also provide discussion regarding other necessary immunisations outside Childhood National Immunisation Program (e.g. meningococcal B, a second varicella vaccination) and can provide that vaccine if required.

Children’s Health

We provide a comprehensive assessment of your child, from birth to adolescence. This includes scheduled immunisations, 6 week checks, allergy advice, behaviour/learning issues, breastfeeding, nutrition, sleeping, adolescent medicine (e.g mental health, sexual health, substance use, transition to adulthood) and parenting advice.

Skin Cancer Checks

Using a digital dermatoscope, thorough and comprehensive skin checks are performed by our specialised GPs. If any necessary skin procedures are required, they may be completed on the day or you may be required to book in for a follow up appointment. You may also be referred to a suitable specialist depending on the clinical context. Please note there is a fee for any procedures.

Children’s Health

-We provide a comprehensive assessment of your child, from birth to adolescence. This includes scheduled immunisations, 6 week checks, allergy advice, behaviour/learning issues, breastfeeding, nutrition, sleeping, adolescent medicine (e.g mental health, sexual health, substance use, transition to adulthood) and parenting advice.

Travel Advice

-We provide specific and general travel advice regarding specific immunisations, precautions regarding certain activities, possible medication issues when a patient is planning to travel overseas. It is vital that if you are planning to travel overseas, to visit us at least 1 month prior any travel plans as certain vaccines require multiple injections to be effective.

Immunisation

-We provide childhood immunisations as per the Childhood National Immunisation Program. We also provide discussion regarding other necessary immunisations outside Childhood National Immunisation Program (e.g. meningococcal B, a second varicella vaccination) and can provide that vaccine if required.
